New goal for the ACE program
With community partners, the Town of Arlington has set a goal to double the number of participants voluntarily choosing to purchase extra renewable energy from Arlington Community Electricity (ACE) to 1,500 by December 31, 2021. Need convincing? Watch this video to find out about our electricity now and what the 100% choice offers.
We’re at 1,000!
ACE has reached an important milestone: 1,000 people in Arlington have voluntarily selected the 100% or 50% renewable electricity options through the program, substantially increasing their support for renewable energy generation in New England and the program’s influence on the transition from fossil fuels to sustainable sources. Arlington community Electricity
ACE is a program offered by the Town to provide residents and businesses more electricity supply options by pooling the electricity use of thousands of users in Arlington. The program is a Town-vetted alternative to Eversource’s default supply and other third party electricity suppliers.
Arlington Community Electricity has a standard product, called Arlington Local Green, which has more renewable energy than required by the Commonwealth. Participants in the program are enrolled in Arlington Local Green unless they affirmatively choose one of our other optional products. Learn more about the program options, including how to switch your choice.
Includes 11% more Renewable Energy Certificates, than required by the Commonwealth
Includes 50% more Renewable Energy Certificates, than required by the Commonwealth
Includes Renewable Energy Certificates equal to 100% of the user’s electricity consumption, in addition to meeting all renewable energy requirements
Meets all Renewable Energy Certificate requirements
Arlington Community Electricity pricing will remain fixed from December 2019 – November 2022. Products described as Green contain Renewable Energy Certificates (MA Class I RECs) above that required by the Commonwealth and come only from solar, wind, anaerobic digestion and low-impact hydro located within New England. Local refers to New England.
MA Class I RECs
All of the additional RECs included in the program are designated as Massachusetts Class I. RECs are the accepted legal instrument used to track renewable energy generation and to substantiate claims of renewable energy use. Learn more about the RECs that are included on the Renewable Energy page.

Goals of Arlington Community Electricity
Competitive, Stable Price
Using strategic purchasing, combined with the bulk purchasing power of thousands of households and businesses in the program, ACE provides competitive, stable rates. Please note, savings compared to Eversource Basic Service cannot be guaranteed because Basic Service prices change every six months for residential and commercial customers and every three months for industrial customers.
Support Renewable Energy Sources
Arlington Community Electricity’s standard product and optional products include more renewable energy than required by the Commonwealth. This means you can support the growth of renewable energy generation in our region. Learn more about our renewable energy options.
Increased Choice and Easy Participation
The program offers 4 different options for electricity supply so that everyone in Arlington can find an option that fits their budget and climate goals.
Participants in ACE may leave the program at any time without penalty.
Solar Electricity Consumers will continue to receive their net metering credits while participating in the program.
Budget Plan or Eligible Low-Income delivery rate consumers will continue to receive those benefits from the utility.
How it works
ACE does not replace Eversource as your electric utility: they continue to deliver electricity, repair outages and manage all billing. The program offers alternatives for the Supply portion of your bill. See the Understanding Your Bill section on the Eversource’s website to see the difference between Supply and Delivery sections.
Most residents and businesses in Arlington already participate in the ACE program. Check your electricity bill to see if you’re one of them: the Supplier should be listed as Direct Energy-Town of Arlington. If Eversource is still listed as your supplier, you may complete the enrollment form to sign up for ACE. If a different supplier is listed, contact that supplier to check for penalties or termination fees that they may charge before you join the ACE program.
Participation in the ACE program is voluntary: you can leave the program at any time without fee or penalty. The program will periodically send Customer Notification letters to new or newly eligible electricity customers, which includes the program details, information about product prices, and renewable energy certificates. Customers who receive this letter and do not choose to opt out will be automatically enrolled. To enroll sooner, use our online forms.
